The children went to our Maine Grandparents this afternoon. When I went over to bring them home Grandma J says, "D was telling me what she learned about the prophets." This was a fun conversation as D and I recounted all the accidents Wilford Woodruff survived growing up. Grandma J questioned why W.W. experienced so much opposition. Then she answered her own question as she stated that the Lord preserved his life for a very important purpose.
• Fell into pot of scolding hot water … age 3
• Broke left arm… age 3-8
• Chased by a bull because of a pumpkin… age 3-8
• Broke right arm… age 3-8
• Nearly smothered by hay… age 3-8
• Turned over in a wagon… age 8
• Fell out of a elm tree... age 8-12
• Nearly drowned in the Farmington River .. age 12
• Almost froze to death ….age 13
• Split inside of foot with an ax … age 14
• Bit in the hand by a mad dog … age 15
• Bucked off by a horse breaking his leg and other severe injuries… age 17

Yes, we have school on Saturday. Saturday is just like a week day sometimes. Darrel is off studying at the Library and I am home with the kiddos. So... we had school today. It was great! The kids are still too young to notice a difference in the days of the week vs. the weekend. Sunday is the only day that truly differs from all the rest.

In 1844, John Taylor was with the prophet Joseph Smith, Jr., brother Hyrum Smith, and Willard Richards in the Carthage, Illinois jail. An angry mob rushed the jail. The mob flooded the room with bullets from the door to their small room and from the exterior window. The prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum Smith were martyred. John Taylor was severely wounded in the conflict. His life may have been spared when a musket ball directed towards his chest was stopped by a pocket watch which he was carrying at the time.

Today was our IMAGINATION DAY. When the children woke up this morning they were so eager to create, experiment, and PLAY that I decided we would dedicate an entire day to doing just that. It was fun. All the recyclables were pulled out, and tons of tape was used. It was messy but, our family needs an unstructured day like this.

When Thomas Jefferson dispatched Lewis and Clark to find a water route across North America and explore the uncharted West, he expected they'd encounter woolly mammoths, erupting volcanoes, and a mountain of pure salt. They were accompanied by a fifteen-year-old Shoshone Indian woman, Sacagawea, the wife of a French-Canadian fur trader. After crossing the Rocky Mountains, the expedition reached the Pacific Ocean in the area of present-day Oregon in November 1805. They returned in 1806, bringing information about the region as well as numerous plant and animal specimens. Reports about geography, plant and animal life, and Indian cultures filled their daily journals. Although Lewis and Clark failed to find a commercial route to Asia, they demonstrated the possibility of overland travel to the Pacific coast.

Today was our last day away from home. We all enjoyed our mini vacation (which is extended time spent away from home). We really feel at home here and look forward to returning in a few months to make it our home. While we were here we were able to view a few more homes. This was exciting and beneficial. The prospect of owning our own home is like a dream come true for me. It is something I have always wanted and have been anticipating for nine years. The kids were amused by each home as they critiqued the rooms and the pros and cons of each. The homes that had small children and were filled with toys were a hit. I think my boys will expect one particular home to actually come with the fire trucks and the swing set in the yard.

There is cable here and the kids have really enjoyed watching Television. This is a true treat for them. I didn't want to put a halt to our school this week so even though we are not doing everything, I think it is is good that we are continuing with Handwriting Without Tears everyday. Today we were able to complete the US Presidents lesson too.

Abigail Adams "I desire you would Remember the Ladies" Abigail Adams was the wife of a president and the mother of another president. She was an exceptional letter writer for her day. More than two thousand of the private letters she sent to members of her family during her lifetime were saved and later published. Due to her letter writing skills, A. Adams has been noted for her own accomplishments than for those of her husband. Her outspoken interest in public affairs and questions brought sarcastic remarks from some of her husband's political enemies. They went as far as to claim he was merely a puppet whose strings were pulled by "Mrs. President." Though this accusation was false, she was a political partner to her husband.

We are on location. Originally, I was going to start School this week. However, it became necessary for us to go out of town and that would not have been a good start for school. So, I started a week earlier and I am so glad that I did. Our "classroom" is not here and because we were getting into a routine it has been challenging today to keep on track. Our three little ones (The Youngers) are extra wiggly. Nevertheless, we are going forward and we'll make adjustments and modifications as needed.
