Today was our IMAGINATION DAY. When the children woke up this morning they were so eager to create, experiment, and PLAY that I decided we would dedicate an entire day to doing just that. It was fun. All the recyclables were pulled out, and tons of tape was used. It was messy but, our family needs an unstructured day like this.

When Thomas Jefferson dispatched Lewis and Clark to find a water route across North America and explore the uncharted West, he expected they'd encounter woolly mammoths, erupting volcanoes, and a mountain of pure salt. They were accompanied by a fifteen-year-old Shoshone Indian woman, Sacagawea, the wife of a French-Canadian fur trader. After crossing the Rocky Mountains, the expedition reached the Pacific Ocean in the area of present-day Oregon in November 1805. They returned in 1806, bringing information about the region as well as numerous plant and animal specimens. Reports about geography, plant and animal life, and Indian cultures filled their daily journals. Although Lewis and Clark failed to find a commercial route to Asia, they demonstrated the possibility of overland travel to the Pacific coast.
